COMPANY TYPES

Which Company Types We Serve

01

IKE — Private Capital Company

Introduced by Law 4072/2012, the IKE is the most popular and recommended entity type for foreign investors in Greece. It requires only €1 in minimum share capital, no notary for incorporation, and is registered fully online through the GEMI portal. The IKE offers limited liability, flexible governance, and allows single-member formation.
Best for:
  • Foreign entrepreneurs and international investors entering Greece
  • Startups, technology, e-commerce, consulting, and service companies
  • Businesses seeking the most streamlined and low-cost EU entity structure
  • Solo founders and partnerships requiring maximum flexibility

02

EPE — Limited Liability Company

The traditional Greek limited liability company, now largely superseded by the IKE. Requires a minimum share capital of €4,500, of which at least 50% (€2,250) must be paid up at registration. A private document (no notary) suffices for incorporation under recent reforms.
Best for:
  • Businesses that specifically require the EPE legal structure
  • Companies with partners who prefer the traditional Greek LLC framework
  • Mid-sized enterprises requiring a recognised conventional structure

03

AE — Public Limited Company

The Greek equivalent of a public limited company. Requires a minimum share capital of €25,000 (reduced from €60,000 under Law 4548/2018). A board of directors with at least three members is required. Suitable for large corporations or companies planning to list on the Athens Stock Exchange.
Best for:
  • Large corporations planning to raise public capital or list on a stock exchange
  • Companies requiring a formal board governance structure
  • Joint ventures between large corporate entities
04

Branch Office

An extension of a foreign parent company operating in Greece. Not a separate legal entity — the parent remains fully liable. Registered with GEMI and requires an AFM for the branch representative.
Best for:
  • Foreign companies establishing a Greek presence without full incorporation
  • Short-term or project-based operations in Greece

Our Recommendation

For the vast majority of foreign entrepreneurs, the IKE is the most practical, modern, and cost-effective entity type in Greece. Since its introduction in 2012, the IKE has replaced the EPE as the dominant choice for new company registrations. It requires only €1 in capital, no notary, and is registered fully online through GEMI — making it one of the simplest EU incorporation processes available.
